Virginia pitcher said a fan offered him Dippin' Dots to lose game in hilarious interview

The Virginia Cavaliers advanced to the Super Regionals of the NCAA baseball tournament after Tuesday's 4-3 win over No. 11 Old Dominion.

But the comeback win did present a few challenges for the unranked Cavaliers: Notably, a pitcher had to turn down free Dippin' Dots.

Following the win, which came courtesy of a Devin Ortiz walk-off home run in the 10th inning, Virginia pitcher Stephen Schoch joined the ACC Network telecast for his interview. Schoch went 3 1/3 innings and secured the win, but you really have to love how Schoch handled the pressure of those final innings.

He jokingly explained how one ODU fan's offer of Dippin' Dots for losing briefly had him in an internal debate out there on the mound — even in that high-pressure situation. His entire answer was hilarious.

"I heard a fan offer free Dippin' Dots if I blew it. … For a brief moment, I was like, 'Damn, Dippin' Dots sound good.' "

Schoch said about his emotions heading into the final innings:

"I heard a fan offer free Dippin' Dots if I blew it, which the price of Dippin' Dots with inflation is just unreal. So, for a brief moment, I was like, 'Damn, Dippin' Dots sound good.' But also I thought in the back of my head, we win today, we win (tonight), we're gonna be here another day. That's more per diem. So that means I can buy my own Dippin' Dots and be a winner."

Virginia will play Dallas Baptist this weekend for a trip to the Men's College World Series.
