The main goal of a pitcher is to throw the ball past home plate. A strike is nice but sometimes a ball will work, too, in order to maybe set something up down the line during an at-bat.

But yeah, as a pitcher you want to get the ball past home plate. It's an easy thing to do and we see major league pitchers do it all the time.

Well, last night in Kansas City, Royals left-handed reliever Jake Brentz struggled to do that and threw such a bad pitch that it barely made it past his feet. To be honest, it didn't even make it past the mound.

What in the what!?

Brentz had a nice recovery, though, as he ended up striking out Oakland's Starling Marte a few pitches later.
