Suspect charged in Allenby abduction case in Hawaii

A suspect has been arrested in the case involving professional golfer Robert Allenby, who said he was robbed, beaten and abducted Jan. 16 after visiting a wine bar after missing the cut in the Sony Open.

Honolulu police booked a 32-year-old male Wednesday on three counts of second-degree identity theft, three counts of second-degree attempted theft, and one count of unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.

The suspect was not named in a statement released by police, but the Honolulu Advertiser newspaper identified him as Owen P. Harbison.

The suspect was arrested at the Oahu Community Correctional Center where he was being held on a contempt warrant for an unrelated incident. He has five previous convictions, including one felony drug conviction.

According to the statement, investigators discovered numerous unauthorized charges made on Allenby's credit cards at various retail and convenience stores on Oahu.

No additional suspects are being sought.

The case has been turned over to the Prosecuting Attorney.

Second-degree identity theft is a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Second-degree theft and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information are Class C felonies punishable by up to five years in prison.

In a press conference at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Jan. 27, Allenby said his wallet, cash, driver's license and cell phone were stolen on the harrowing night. He also said he thought he had been drugged.

Allenby said he has no recollection of events from that night from 11:06 p.m. to 1:27 a.m.
