Notes: The top-ranked McIlroy is returning from a left ankle injury. He was hurt early last month playing soccer with friends in Northern Ireland. ... Masters and U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth is trying to become the first player to win all three U.S. majors in the same year. ... Zach Johnson won the British Open, putting the U.S. in position for its first major sweep since 1982. ... Tiger Woods won in 1999, 2000, 2006 and 2007. He won the last of his 14 major titles in the 2008 U.S. Open. ... The tournament is being played at Whistling Straits for the third time. Vijay Singh won in 2004, and Martin Kaymer in 2010 — both in playoffs. The 2020 Ryder Cup will be played at the Pete Dye-designed course. ... Notes: The tournament is in its 44th year, making it the tour's longest-running nonmajor event. ... There are two tournaments left in the race for the eight automatic spots on the U.S. Solheim Cup team. Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr, Michelle Wie, Brittany Lincicome and Morgan Pressel have wrapped up positions.
