President Obama was part of a large group of notable names from from the sports world and beyond to weigh in on the death of golf icon Arnold Palmer.

"Here's to The King who was as extraordinary on the links as he was generous to others. Thanks for the memories, Arnold," read the tweet, featuring a photo of Palmer alongside Obama as the president practiced his putt in the Oval Office.

Palmer had a long history with U.S. presidents. In addition to Obama, Palmer played or talked golf with Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. The second Bush presented Palmer with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004, and Eisenhower even painted a portrait of Palmer.
