Sergio Garcia responds to dog picking him to win Match Play
A beagle in Austin has picked Sergio Garcia to win this week's WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. You can see for yourself in the video that a very scientific method was used to pick a winner.
And Garcia, who is making his 15th appearance in the event, doesn't want to let down Sid the beagle. "Thanks for the vote of confidence," Garcia tweeted.
It's another example of how Garcia likes to use his Twitter account to engage with fans.
He spoke about using social media Tuesday in a news conference before the tournament started.
"I think it's very important," he said. "And for me especially, I think it's very important to really connect with my fans. I know that it is a great platform to build professional relationships with sponsors and stuff like that. But that's not one of the things I want to do. I want to do some of that because my sponsors deserve it and I do it. But I really want it to be — like I've always said, I want it to be truthful. I want my fans to feel closer to me because of the things they know about me, not because of me posting things about TaylorMade or Adidas or Omega or SuperStroke or all of my other sponsors.
"So I think that at the end of the day, you have to balance it in a good way. But one of the most important things for me is to know that my fans know me better because of it."
