Michelle Wie withdraws from U.S. Women’s Open with neck injury

Michelle Wie withdrew from the U.S. Women’s Open on Friday morning citing a neck injury.

She wrote on Twitter that she has been receiving treatment daily to be able to play.

“Unfortunately based on the short turnaround from last night’s round to this morning, I haven’t been able to recover enough to play to my full potential today,” she wrote.

Wie shot a 1-over 73 in the first round of the U.S. Women’s Open at President Trump’s course in Bedminster, N.J.

She had said she needed “a small miracle” to tee it up and was excited to play Thursday, according to the Associated Press. She wasn’t able to play full practice rounds earlier in the week.

Wie added in her statement on Twitter that she’s confident she’ll be healthy for the Scottish and British Opens in late July and early August, respectively.
