Steph Curry faces long odds in Web.com Tour tournament

Two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry is competing in his first professional golf event this week, teeing off in the Web.com Tour’s Ellie Mae Classic. Curry received a sponsor’s invite.
The tournament begins Thursday at TPC Stonebrae, a Bay area country club course in Hayward, Calif. Curry will tee off at 11:55 a.m. ET with Sam Ryder and defending champion Stephan Jaeger. On Friday, Curry will begin the second round at 5:15 p.m. ET.
Ryder and Jaeger are the two highest-ranked players in the field at No. 2 and 3 on the money list, respectively. Ryder claimed his first career victory at last month’s Pinnacle Bank Championship to secure his PGA TOUR card for the 2017-18 season.
Curry finished fourth in the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe a few weeks back — although at the pro-am level.
His odds to win, let alone compete at the pro level are slim. The Golden State Warriors point guard is a 3,000-1 long shot to win the whole thing, according to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook. A $100 bet for him to make the cut would win $1,500, as his odds are +1500. Whereas the odds for him to miss the cut are -5000.
NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice played in the same event three times, finishing dead last, second-to-last, and withdrawing.
