Steph Curry makes pro golf debut at Ellie Mae Classic

Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry made his professional golf debut on Thursday in the Web.com Tour's Ellie Mae Classic.

The two-time NBA MVP, who drew large crowds of fans to the greens, held his own early on.

The highlight-reel came when Curry birdied on the sixth hole, leading to a mini celebration reminiscent of those on the basketball court following a barrage of made three-pointers. After sinking the clutch put, Curry raised his hands to the sky, fist pumped and shoulder bumped his caddie.

The NBA All-Star followed his birdie with three consecutive par shots and was +2 through his first nine holes. He also made par on his second hole.

Curry's par run continued onto his back nine before bogeying the par three second hole (Curry started his round off the back nine). He immediately got back on track, birdieing the par five third hole, his second birdie on a par five.

A wayward drive left Curry in trouble on No. 5, ending with a double-bogey to drop him to four-over on the round. Once again, the two-time MVP responded to adversity with a birdie on No. 6, a the par three.

Curry rattled off two more par's and ended his round with a bogey on the par five ninth, coming in at four-over for the round.

Curry made an impressive bogey on the first hole — off a tough chip shot to recover from his first drive.

Hilariously, Curry's opening tee shot landed in the bottom of a cup holder in a golf cart.

Curry, a 2-handicap, received a sponsor’s invite for the PGA-sponsored tournament at TPC Stonebrae, a Bay area country club course in Hayward, Calif. Curry finished fourth in the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe a few weeks back — although at the pro-am level.

Curry said earlier this week he had "realistic" goals and would be ecstatic with making the cut.
