'Just not ready yet': Bryson DeChambeau withdraws from 2022 PGA Championship with ailing wrist

Bryson DeChambeau traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, this week with the hopes of playing in the 104th PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club.

“All is going well,” DeChambeau told Golfweek on Monday. “Everybody’s going to say I’m coming back too early, but I’m being very careful.”

But, after testing his surgically repaired left wrist over the last few days, he’s decided to withdraw from the second men’s major of the year.

“Just not ready yet,” DeChambeau said in a text to Golfweek.

DeChambeau hasn’t played on the PGA Tour since the Masters. He missed the cut after struggling through the first two rounds with a 76 on Thursday and a Friday 80, the highest major championship score of his career.

Despite the injury, his speed seems to be coming back as he posted a video to social media smashing driver in his driveway. In photos from his practice rounds, DeChambeau had his wrist heavily wrapped for protection and support.

After his arrival at Southern Hills, DeChambeau said: “It’s a day-to-day thing. If I can’t go this week, I’ll play next week. If I can’t play next week, it will be a week-to-week thing.”

It’s now a waiting game to see when the eight-time Tour winner will return.
