A 158-player field is at Royal Troon in Scotland this weekend competing for the final major championship of the year: The Open Championship, more commonly known as the British Open. Four rounds will decide who wins the claret jug - the oldest trophy in golf - this year.

But only the top 70 players and ties will make the cut on Friday. It's a larger field than in the U.S. Open (top 60 players and ties) and the Masters (top 50).

The last few years have seen a low cut line at the British Open. It was 3-over in 2023, par in 2022, and 1-over in 2021. That's lower than the last British Open at Royal Troon in 2016 that saw a cut line of 4-over.

After the first round on Thursday, 81 players were at 3 over or better for the projected cut line. That projection's moved around multiple times in round two at Royal Troon.
