Paste BN High School Sports Awards: Atlanta girls basketball nominees
The Paste BN High School Sports Awards are slated to celebrate the top student-athletes in the Atlanta area.
On June 18, 2020, at 6 p.m., Paste BN will fete high school standouts with a star-studded online show available free of charge to all viewers. The show will also be available on demand after the initial live event.
Here are the eight nominees for Atlanta Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
Anaya Boyd
School: Lovejoy High School (Hampton, Ga.)
Class: 2020
Position: Guard
College: Georgia Tech
Noteworthy: One half of the Peach State’s top backcourt, Boyd, a combo guard, bounded through the lane for creative finishes, found open teammates with uncommon vision and displayed versatility with her shots from beyond the arc.
Genesis Bryant
School: Lovejoy High School (Hampton, Ga.)
Class: 2020
Position: Point guard
College: N.C. State
Noteworthy: Bryant, a 5-foot-6 point guard, earned co-player of the year honors in Region 4-6A, and will bring her brand of leadership to the ACC for college.
Sania Feagin
School: Forest Park
Position: C/F
Class: 2021
College: Undecided
Noteworthy: The 6-foot-4 junior stitched together an impressive stats line – 17.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.6 blocks and three steals per game – for the season.
Asjah Inniss
School: Collins Hill High (Suwanee, Ga.)
Class: 2020
Position: Guard
College: Undecided
Noteworthy: Inniss was a key cog for the Eagles’ attack, capable of leading the team in scoring any night and poaching the ball on defense as an opportunist.
Raven Johnson
School: Westlake (Atlanta)
Class: 2021
Position: Point guard
College: Undecided
Noteworthy: Johnson led the Lady Lions to their third consecutive Class 7A state championship by punctuating her stellar season with 23 points in the finale win over Collins Hill.
Lazaria Spearman
School: Dacula High
Class: 2022
Position: Forward
College: Undecided
Noteworthy: The 6-foot-2 tenderfoot averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds per game to help the Falcons to a 26-4 record. Her 414 rebounds were a school record.
Tate Walters
School: Buford High
Class: 2020
Position: Guard
College: Furman
Noteworthy: Walters was there when the Wolves needed her most in the Class 5A title game, scoring 18 points, grabbing five rebounds, handing out two assists and collecting two steals.
Sacha Washinton
School: Collins Hill High (Suwanee, Ga.)
Class: 2020
Position: Forward
College: Purdue
Noteworthy: Always good to go for a double-double, the future Boilermaker made Collins Hill go in the paint against McEachern when she matched her 17 points with 17 boards.
