Paste BN High School Sports Awards: Los Angeles boys basketball nominees
The Paste BN High School Sports Awards are slated to celebrate the top student-athletes in the Los Angeles area.
On June 18, 2020, at 6 p.m., Paste BN will fete high school standouts with a star-studded online show available free of charge to all viewers. The show will also be available on demand after the initial live event.
Here are the 11 nominees for Los Angeles Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
Devin Askew
School: Mater Dei
Class: 2020
Position: Point guard
College: Kentucky
Noteworthy: His season high of 43 points (on 14-of-18 shooting) came in a win over Rancho Christian. Askew also grabbed six rebounds and assisted on five shots.
Brandon Boston
School: Sierra Canyon
Class: 2020
Position: Shooting guard
College: Kentucky
Noteworthy: Boston scored a game-high 26 points in the CIF regional championship, and the most important shot was a straightaway 3-pointer.
Josh Christopher
School: Mayfair (Lakewood)

Noteworthy: The McDonald’s All American impacted post play all season on both ends of the court as he averaged 29.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.1 steals per game.
Jaylen Clark

Noteworthy: The 6-foot-5 wing put his power on display with two fierce dunks in the Eagles’ 65-61 Open Division CIF regional semifinal win over Mater Dei.
Skyy Clark
School: Heritage Christian

Position: Point guard
College: Undecided
Noteworthy: An effortless shooter with a quick release, Clark hit eight 3-pointers and finished with 48 points against Mission Viejo in the Division 2AA playoffs.
Dominick Harris
School: Rancho Christian

Noteworthy: Defenses learned quickly that he could hit from the outside. Against Mater Dei, he knocked down four triples en route to 22 points.
Ian Martinez

Noteworthy: Martinez averaged 23.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game as he led the Lions to a 25-9 record.
Evan Mobley

Brief: The 7-foot force ran the floor well and protected the rim as he averaged 20.5 points, 12.2 rebounds and 5.2 blocks per game.
Peyton Watson
School: Long Beach Poly

Noteworthy: A five-star player in the junior class, Watson averaged 23.2 points and 8.0 rebounds for the Jackrabbits.
Ziaire Williams
School: Sierra Canyon
Class: 2020
Position: Small forward
College: Stanford
Noteworthy: Facing elimination in the semifinals, Williams made a 16-foot shot from the left side of the free-throw lane as the buzzer sounded, completing a 13-0 surge and giving Sierra Canyon a 63-61 win.

Noteworthy: Wright’s free throws against Riverside Poly with 20.7 seconds left sealed the CIF Division 1 title for the Wildcats.
