Hockey fans have long accused players they don't like of being garbage, and also have a lengthy history of comparing players — often defenders, on their team and others — of being pylons.

In a preseason game played in a Swiss league, those two longstanding traditions reached a weird literal convergence, in the form of a garbage can being placed on the ice

Per hockey scout Dennis Schellenberg, what appeared to be an industrial garbage can was used as a bucket to collect water that was dripping down onto the ice. While it certainly fixed the issue by keeping the ice conditions safe(r) and allowing the game to continue, it certainly seems like there had to be a better way.

Just look at where that bucket is. Prime real estate just off behind the net where players will swing by on breakouts.

As Schellenberg said so perfectly: "Only in preseason."
