If you're planning to watch the Kentucky Derby in May, there's a chance you might see Gronkowski make a run for the roses.

No, not the New England Patriots tight end, but a horse named after him.

Gronkowski, a 3-year-old trained by Jeremy Noseda, is named after Rob Gronkowski, the two-time Super Bowl champion.

And he won the ''Road to the Kentucky Derby'' Kempton Stakes, a 1-mile race in which he started as the favorite at 6-4, Wednesday night outside London.

The race carries qualification points for the Kentucky Derby. Gronkowski earned 20 points with the win on the all-weather surface. That gives him a 3-0 record so far.

Next up is Friday's Patton stakes at Dundalk, followed by a March 30 qualifier back at Kempton that will decide which European-trained horse will earn a guaranteed spot in the Derby.
