(This story has been updated with news that Grande was scratched from the 2025 Kentucky Derby on Friday).

It's almost time for the 151st Kentucky Derby.

The first race of the horse racing Triple Crown is set to be run on Saturday, May 3, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. For the second straight year, the purse for the signature horse race comes in at $5 million.

On Saturday, May 17, the Preakness Stakes will be run at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. The last leg of the Triple Crown races is on June 7 at the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. If the same horse wins all three races, it wins the Triple Crown.

Justify was the last Triple Crown winner, winning each of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont States, in 2018.
