Kentucky Derby contenders: Points leaders as 151st Run for the Roses approaches
The 2025 Kentucky Derby is approaching quickly and is less than a month away. The 151st Run for the Roses will take place at Churchill Downs on May 3.
The Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the Triple Crown, consists of a series of qualifying races. These include the American Road, the Japan Road, and the European/Middle East Road, where top horses earn points. The 18 horses with the most points secure a spot in the 151st Run for the Roses.
The field of 18 horses, all three-year-old Thoroughbreds, will then compete in the Kentucky Derby. The American Grade I stakes race, covering a distance of 1 1/4 miles.
As the top contenders approach the 151st Run for the Roses on May 3, the competition is heating up and here are the current total points.
