The 2025 Preakness Stakes, the second race in the Triple Crown, is just under a week away. The constantly changing field of competitors gives any horse a chance to win the prestigious title.

The Kentucky Derby winner, Sovereignty, will not compete in the Preakness Stakes, disappointing hopes for a Triple Crown winner. Another early favorite, Rodriguez, trained by Bob Baffert, will also absent from the Preakness Stakes due to a foot issue. Baffert described the issue as a sensitive foot bruise, which was also the reason Rodriguez was withdrawn from the Kentucky Derby.

Only one horse from the Kentucky Derby, American Promise, is still in contention for the Preakness Stakes. As the exciting lineup is set to be finalized within the next 24 hours, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Preakness Stakes.
