Red Sox trade Yoenis Cespedes to Tigers for Rick Porcello

The Detroit Tigers added another slugger to compliment Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez in the lineup.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski agreed to trade right-handed pitcher Rick Porcello to the Boston Red Sox for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, RHP Alex Wilson and LHP Gabe Speier.

Cespedes, who combined to hit 22 home runs and drove in 100 RBI last season between the Oakland Athletics and Red Sox last season, has a .464 slugging percentage and .780 OPS over three seasons.

He is in the final year of a four-year, $36 million deal while Porcello is in his final year of arbitration.

For the Red Sox, they were in the market for a starting pitcher after they lost the bidding war for free agent Jon Lester, who signed with the Chicago Cubs. They received Porcello, who went 5-13 with a 3.43 ERA and had 129 strikeouts against 41 walks last season in Detroit.

They are also expected to acquire pitcher Wade Miley in a trade not announced yet from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
