Red Sox recall Jackie Bradley Jr, demote Allen Craig
TORONTO (AP) — After losing seven of their past eight games, the Boston Red Sox are shaking up their roster, recalling outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. and right-hander Steven Wright from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Bradley Jr. was batting .343 with one homer and nine RBI at Pawtucket, while Wright was 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA in four starts.
The Red Sox optioned outfielder Allen Craig and right-hander Robbie Ross to Triple-A on Sunday. Craig was batting .135 with one homer and two RBIs in 24 games, while Ross had no record and a 6.17 ERA in 13 relief appearances.
Manager John Farrell had hinted at roster changes after Boston lost 7-1 to Toronto on Saturday. The Red Sox have dropped 14 of 20 since a 7-3 start.
Utility player Brock Holt returned to the team Sunday after missing the previous two games for a family funeral.
