Reports: Orioles, Dexter Fowler agree to a three-year deal
Just days after the Baltimore agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Yovani Gallardo, the Orioles made a second significant free agent addition.
The Orioles and outfielder Dexter Fowler agreed to a three-year deal, worth around $35 million, according to multiple reports.
The agreement with Fowler, who turned down a $15.8 million qualifying offer from the Chicago Cubs in November, fills two glaring holes this spring. Fowler likely will start in right field and become the teams leadoff hitter.
The speedy outfielder hit .251 with 20 stolen bases and 102 runs scored in 156 games. He also owns a career .363 on-base percentage.
When the club agreed to sign Gallardo -- though not official yet -- they forfeited their first round pick in the draft. With Fowler, 29, the Orioles forfeit their next-highest pick (28th) in the draft.
