Red Sox join Dodgers in bidding for Chris Sale
An intriguing late entry has emerged in the Chris Sale sweepstakes, as the Boston Red Sox entered into negotiations with the Chicago White Sox for the All-Star left-hander.
A baseball official with direct knowledge of situation confirmed to Paste BN Sports that the Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers are the likeliest destinations for Sale. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because trade talks remain fluid.
It remains unclear, however, that the White Sox will move Sale, largely because his combination of skills and cost-effectiveness - signed for an average of $12.5 million from 2017 through 2019 - would force potential trade partners to surrender a significant package for Sale. The 27-year-old has a career record of 71-44 with a 2.95 ERA.
And should the White Sox - at 51-54 on the fringe of contention, at best - decide to deal Sale, the return might be better in the offseason, with more potential trade partners in play.
