MLB standings: Playoff picture entering Thursday, Sept. 22
Days left in season: 11
Wednesday’s big mover: Mariners. Seattle pumped significant life into its playoff chances by salvaging the finale of a three-game set with the Blue Jays. The Orioles’ loss to the Red Sox puts Seattle just two back. Though it must leapfrog Detroit and Houston, Seattle has three games left with the Astros.
Wednesday’s big loser: Mets. They could have risen above the pack in the NL wild card, but Ender Inciarte had other plans. Now, it’s 10 games left against the Marlins and Phillies to stay above water.
Thursday’s can’t-miss game: Boston at Baltimore, 7:05 ET. If only to determine whether the Red Sox might actually lose again. David Price will also make his case for a Game 1 AL Division Series start; he’s opposed by Baltimore’s Chris Tillman.
