Famous Wrigley Field sign gets historic makeover for World Series
CHICAGO - Never have empty frames on a scoreboard looked so good.
For the first time since it went up 20 years ago, the famous “Eamus Catuli” sign across from Wrigley Field has zeroes to represent years since the Chicago Cubs last won the pennant.
The sign, on the rooftop of the Lakeview Baseball Club on Sheffield Avenue, had come to symbolize the Cubs’ long stretch of futility. Following the letters “AC” – for Year of the Cub, of course – were three sets of numbers: the first to mark how long since the Cubs won the division, the next for the pennant and the last for the World Series.
When the season began, the sign read, “AC0871108.” Now the 108 is the only number left to be reset.
Oh, and the Eamus Catuli portion of the sign? It reportedly means, “Go little bears!” in Latin.
