Angels' Albert Pujols out four months after foot surgery
Los Angeles Angels slugger Albert Pujols underwent offseason foot surgery on Friday and will be out four months.
Pujols underwent a similar procedure last offseason to "alleviate pain near the arch of his right foot."
This procedure was done "to release his right plantar fascia," the Angels said in a statement.
"The surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson in North Carolina. Estimated time to return to play for this injury is typically four months.”
Opening day for Los Angeles is April 3.
The three-time NL MVP with 591 career home runs was bothered all season by plantar fasciitis.
The Angels will turn to C.J. Cron to replace Pujols at first base until he returns.
Pujols, who turns 37 next season, is coming off a successful season in which he hit .268 with 31 homers and 119 RBI last season.
