Indians agree with Edwin Encarnacion on three-year deal

The American League champion Cleveland Indians bolstered their lineup in a big way, agreeing to a three-year, $60 million deal with free agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion, according to a baseball official with knowledge of the situation. The person spoke to Paste BN Sports on the condition of anonymity because the team had not yet announced the deal.
The deal includes a $25 million team option for a fourth year. Encarnacion is guaranteed $60 million, with that figure including a $5 million buyout for the fourth year.
Encanacion hit 42 home runs with 127 RBI in 2016 with the Toronto Blue Jays. Over the past five seasons, Encarnacion has averaged 39 home runs and 110 RBI.
The 33-year-old will likely split time between designated hitter and first base in Cleveland, rotating with Carlos Santana. Free agent Mike Napoli started 98 games at first for the Indians last season, while Santana started 62.
