Rougned Odor has reached an agreement on a contract extension with the Texas Rangers that will pay him $49.5 million over six years, according to multiple news media outlets. The deal also includes an option for a seventh season.

Odor would've been arbitration eligible in 2018 and a free agent in 2021.

Odor, 23, has become one of the more exciting young players in baseball, known for his exuberance and competitiveness on the field.

While the second baseman improved on his power totals in his third season — 33 home runs, 88 RBI, .502 slugging percentage — he also walked less (19 times, 3% of plate appearances) and struck out more (135, 21.4%). He batted .271, but his on-base percentage fell from .316 to .296. and his Wins Above Replacement from 2.4 to 2.0, according to Fangraphs.com. Odor also stole 14 bases last season.

Even though Odor has displayed skills to build around, he has also let his emotions get the best of him. Odor was suspended eight games last season for triggering a brawl with a punch of Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista after Bautista slid hard into second base.
