The San Diego Padres released a statement indicating they will proceed with a months-long plan to install additional netting to the end of each dugout at Petco Park.
The project will take place in the offseason and will be in place when the Padres open the 2018 season at home against the Milwaukee Brewers on March 29.
The announcement comes one day after a 2-year-old girl was hospitalized after being hit by a foul ball at Yankee Stadium. The incident renewed the demand for better expanding of the netting at ballparks across the major leagues.
The Cincinnati Reds also announced Thursday that they will undergo the same security measure for the 2018 season.
