Cleveland Indians sign 1B Yonder Alonso to two-year contract
The Cleveland Indians have signed first baseman Yonder Alonso to a two-year deal worth $16 million.
The contract reportedly includes a third-year vesting option worth $8 million.
Alonso, 30, split the 2017 season between the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners and used an increased fly-ball rate to result in a career-high 28 home runs. Alonso had a .266 batting average/.365 on-base percentage/.501 slugging percentage.
Alonso will replace Carlos Santana, who was formally introduced as a new member of the Philadelphia Phillies earlier Wednesday after signing a three-year, $60 million deal. Santana spent the first eight seasons of his MLB career with the Indians.
