Anthony Rizzo on MLB teams donning Stoneman Douglas caps: 'It's awesome'

MESA, Ariz. - Anthony Rizzo took an unscheduled round trip from Chicago Cubs camp to his high school alma mater in Florida, where he delivered an emotional address to grieving students and community members.
Now, the Cubs first baseman is the one feeling the love, as his counterparts across the major leagues will don Stoneman Douglas High School baseball caps during Cactus and Grapefruit league exhibition openers on Friday.

"It’s awesome," Rizzo said Wednesday. "There’s obviously deeper ties for me than the rest of the league. But it’s really neat that major league baseball’s recognizing what happened."
Rizzo welcomed the offer to pivot to baseball questions, perhaps a bit weary from serving as the most prominent public face of the school shooting that killed 17 and prompted mass student walkouts across Broward County even as Rizzo was addressing the news media Wednesday morning.
The Cubs will wear the caps on Saturday, the day of their Cactus League home opener against the Milwaukee Brewers at Sloan Park, and hold a moment of silence for the victims.
