Trevor Bauer, Lance McCullers smooth things over in charitable way

Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Trevor Bauer turned heads earlier this month with some Twitter comments that many took as an accusation of cheating against the Houston Astros pitching staff.

Bauer denied the comments were directed at any one team, insisting his problem was with Major League Baseball not delving into suspicion of foreign-substance use by pitchers with increased spin rates.

Bauer's social-media comments, which came on the heels of another dominant outing by Astros offseason acquisition Gerrit Cole, were objected swiftly by Astros players, starter Lance McCullers being the first among them.

Bauer, who immediately responded to McCullers to clarify his comments, woke the rivalry back up Friday — but in a positive way.

Bauer has been running a "69 Days of Giving" campaign in which he is donating about $100,000 to 68 charities, according to his website. Bauer announced on Twitter that he was making McCullers' foundation his 51st donation, but it didn't come without a jab.

McCullers, stealing a line from teammate Alex Bregman who referred to Bauer as "Tyler", responded in appreciation.

All is fair in true love and baseball wars.
