Top vote-getter Freddie Freeman leads trio of Braves atop NL All-Star balloting

The upstart Atlanta Braves have three players leading their positions in voting for the All-Star Game, according to National League totals released by Major League Baseball on Monday.

First baseman Freddie Freeman overcame Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies as the top vote-getter for the July 17 game in Washington.

Freeman has tallied 633,342 votes, while Braves teammate Ozzie Albies leads all second basemen and outfielder Nick Markakis trails only Bryce Harper among outfielders.

Freeman, a two-time All-Star, is bidding for his first fan-elected start in batting .340 with 12 home runs and 45 RBI.

Filling out the NL leaders: Catcher Buster Posey (281,331) and shortstop Brandon Crawford (466,021) of the the Giants; Arenado of the Rockies (527,683); outfielders Harper of the Nationals (498,189) and Matt Kemp of the Dodgers (351,780)

The voting period for the All-Star Game concludes July 5.
