Miami Marlins pitcher Dan Straily received a five-game suspension and manager Don Mattingly was given one game for Tuesday's incident against the San Francisco Giants, Joe Torre, chief baseball officer for Major League Baseball, announced Thursday.
With warnings in place after Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson was hit by a pitch by Dereck Rodríguez, Straily hit catcher Buster Posey with an apparent payback pitch in the second inning.
Both Straily and Mattingly were ejected.
The ill feelings between the two clubs began a week earlier, from the series in Miami. In the series finale, Straily hit Evan Longoria with a pitch, breaking his left pinkie and knocking him out for about eight weeks.
