Mets ace Jacob deGrom's historic 2018 campaign earned him the National League Cy Young, but the award's physical manifestation was a disappointment when it arrived.
During shipping from New York to Florida, the plaque honoring deGrom's achievement was damaged, with a number of letters winding up chipped and a chunk of wood gone from the back.
The Mets will be returning the award to the manufacturer in order to get repaired, according to ESPN.
The 30-year-old right-hander led the majors with a 1.70 ERA and received 29 of 30 first-place votes for the Cy Young. He finished fifth in Nl MVP voting, receiving the only first-place vote that didn't go to winner Christian Yelich.
