Mariners set record with home run in 15 straight games to start 2019 season
Continuing their early season onslaught, the Seattle Mariners became the first team in history hit a home run in each of the first 15 games to start a season.
Dee Gordon's sixth-inning solo homer off the Kansas City Royals' Jorge López on Thursday got the Mariners on the scoreboard and was the team's MLB-leading 35th homer of the year.
The 2002 Cleveland Indians previously held the record, starting that season with a home run in 14 consecutive games.
Seattle overcame a 6-2 deficit to win 7-6 in 10 innings on Thursday.
The Mariners have started the season 13-2, the best mark in baseball. Through Thursday's game, Jay Bruce had seven homers, Daniel Vogelbach had six and Tim Beckham, Edwin Encarnacion and Domingo Santana each had four.
Speaking of streaks, the Royals' Whit Merrifield saw his club-record 31-game hitting streak come to an end, going 0-for-6 on the afternoon.
Merrifield got an additional chance in extra innings to extend his streak, but struck out swinging to end the game.
