David Price: 'No one should have an off day' on Jackie Robinson Day

Red Sox pitcher David Price took to Twitter on Wednesday to express his displeasure that Major League Baseball didn't have a full of slate of games for Jackie Robinson Day on Monday.

Only 20 of the league's 30 teams were in action on April 15, the annual celebration of Robinson breaking baseball's color barrier in 1947.

"1/3 of @mlb teams had an off day on Jackie Robinson day...I just can’t wrap my head around that. We’ve had a problem for a while and this couldn’t make it any more noticeable," Price tweeted Wednesday morning.

In fairness to MLB, Mondays are generally a travel day and feature fewer games. Ten teams were also off on Monday, April 8 and it will be the same on April 22.

Still, Price's point stands. The league's schedule-makers probably should have found a way to have all 30 teams play on such an important day.

It's been 22 years since Robinson's No. 42 was retired by the league, 15 years since "Jackie Robinson Day" became an official league holiday. and MLB is spending this entire season celebrating Robinson's 100th birthday.

The last time April 15 fell on a Monday was 2013 and only 16 teams played that day. The issue could arise again in 2021 when April 15 falls on a Thursday, another traditional travel day.
