Home runs continue to fly at a historic rate and Major League Baseball set a calendar-month record with 1,135 home runs in May.
Previously, the most home runs in a single month was 1,119 in August 2017.
Toronto's Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit the record-breaking homer, a solo shot in the eighth inning against the Rockies.
With 2,279 home runs league-wide through Friday, the 2019 season is on pace to set a new single-season mark. That record was set in 2017 season, when MLB hitters went long 6,105 times.
Houston's Alex Bregman, Cincinnati's Derek Dietrich and Pittsburgh's Josh Bell led the league with 12 homers during the month. The Twins had 56 home runs as a team, the third-most ever by a team in the month of May.
