The first extra-inning game of the 2020 Major League Baseball season also featured its first walk-off.
Extra innings start with a runner on second base under the new rules this season and after a walk and hit batsmen loaded the bases, Athletics first baseman Matt Olson launched a walk-off grand slam off Angels reliever Hoby Milner to give Oakland a 7-3 win.
It was MLB's first walk-off grand slam on opening day since Jim Presley did it for the Mariners in 1986.
In the top of the inning, Olson – a two-time Gold Glove winner – made a heads-up play to cut down a runner advancing to third on a ground ball hit to the right side.
