Mets to resume play Tuesday after having no additional COVID-19 positives

The New York Mets avoided a full-blown outbreak.

Major League Baseball on Monday announced the Mets would resume game action on Tuesday with a doubleheader against the Miami Marlins. The Mets were cleared to play because all coronavirus tests administered to those in the organization — even those given Sunday — came back negative after two members of the organization tested positive on Aug. 20.

The Mets are hosting baseball activities at Citi Field on Monday, MLB's release said.

Tuesday's doubleheader begins at 5:10 p.m. The Mets will be the home team in the first game, while the Marlins will be the home side in the second game to make up for the postponement of the series finale on Miami.

To make up for a postponed Subway Series, the Mets and Yankees will play doubleheaders on Friday and Sunday at Yankee Stadium. The sides will play the third game on Sept. 3 at Citi Field.

The Mets will have missed five days due to the positive tests.
