Yankees pitcher wears No. 89, meaning all numbers have been used in Major League Baseball

It might not have seemed as though there was anything special about the No.89 Miguel Yajure was issued when the New York Yankees called him up from their alternate training site Aug. 20.

But when he made his major league debut on Monday, he donned the only remaining number -- 0 to 99 -- that hasn't been worn in a Major League Baseball game. Yajure's major league debut in New York's 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays meant every number has now appeared on a field in the majors.

Yajure pitched three innings, giving up no runs on three walks and two strikeouts.

Even stranger is that three of the remaining unused numbers -- Nos. 86, 89 and 92, according to Baseball Reference -- were all worn this season, in August.

The St. Louis Cardinals gave relief pitcher Génesis Cabrera No. 92 and fellow reliever Jesus Cruz No. 86. 

"Thought he did a really good job," Yankees' manager Aaron Boone said per Sports illustrated. "Coming in for three innings, he picked us up big time and saved us from using some guys. To go three scoreless in his debut, he's got that way about him. I knew there wouldn't be any fear, he's got a lot of confidence."
