Rheal Cormier, who pitched for five teams over 16 MLB seasons, dies at 53


Rheal Cormier, who pitched for five MLB teams over a 16-season career, has died of pancreatic cancer, the Philadelphia Phillies said. He was 53.

Cormier pitched for the Phillies from 2001 to 2006, his longest stint with any team. He went 8-0 with a 1.70 ERA during his best season in 2003.

The Phillies traded him to the Reds for Justin Germano in July 2006.

The left-hander also pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals, Montreal Expos and Boston Red Sox. He went 71-64 with a 4.03 ERA in 683 career appearances, mostly as a reliever.

The Moncton, New Brunswick, native was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012.
