Anthony Rendon has suspension for fan incident in Oakland reduced to four games

Anthony Rendon had his suspension reduced to four games by Major League Baseball after the Los Angeles Angels third baseman said that he is dropping his appeal of what was originally slated to be a five-game penalty.

Rendon was suspended on Monday, three days after videos emerged showing him confronting a fan in Oakland after the Los Angeles Angels-Athletics opener. He will sit out the Angels' entire series against the Seattle Mariners as well as the Angels' home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.

Rendon, 32, doubled back toward the fan, who was seated in an elevated field level section looking down on the Angels' passage from field to clubhouse at Oakland Coliseum; the fan appeared to be shouting at Angels players as they filed by following their 2-1 loss

Rendon grabbed the fan near his collar and feinted as if he'd swing at him before walking back to the Angels' clubhouse.

"It sucks. My emotions got the best of me. I'm usually pretty good about interacting with fans. Always like to chirp back at them, kind of have fun with it," Rendon said before the Angels' game Monday night in Seattle.

Rendon said he spoke with the fan on the phone earlier Monday.

"We both apologized about what had happened. We're both ready to move forward," Rendon said.
