Freddie Freeman hit the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history on Friday, giving the Los Angeles Dodgers a 10-inning win over the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series.
With the Dodgers down 3-2 and down to their final out with the bases the bottom of the 10th, Freeman crushed a Nestor Cortes offering into right field at Dodger Stadium.
"Those are the kind of things, when you're five years old with your two older brothers and you're playing wiffle ball in the backyard, those are the scenarios you dream about, two outs, bases loaded in a World Series game," Freeman told reporters after the game.
The 2021 National League MVP, Freeman has been hampered by an ankle injury throughout the postseason – but also hit a triple in the Dodgers' 6-3 win.
