A day after Jackson Chourio heads to the IL, another Brewers outfielder leaves with injury

WASHINGTON — The Milwaukee Brewers could hardly afford another injury to a starting outfielder as Sal Frelick left the game Aug. 2.
Frelick, who recently returned from a stint on the injured list with a hamstring strain, was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the top of the fourth at Nationals Park with left knee soreness. The Brewers called his removal "precautionary."
Frelick aggravated his meniscus with a swing in his second at-bat when his cleat stuck in the ground. Brewers manager Pat Murphy said it was the same injury that cost Frelick three games in May.
“They say it’s fairly common,” Murphy said. “When you wrench it a little bit it flares up on you.”
The reigning Gold Glove winner is day-to-day, which Murphy called “a blessing.”
Frelick was 2 for 2 to start the game with a double and single and exited after playing the entirety of the bottom of the third in the field.
Expect newly-acquired Brandon Lockridge to get plenty of playing time in the meantime with Frelick out.
“Position player depth, we have some but it’s not as deep as we’d like,” Murphy said. “We’ll just keep rolling.”
Frelick has been running at seemingly below 100% since coming back from the IL July 26 but his performance has not been affected at the plate or in the field.
The Brewers placed Jackson Chourio on the IL the day prior, Aug. 1, with another hamstring strain. Chourio received a PRP injection and will resume physical rehab Aug. 4 in Milwaukee. His timetable to return is unknown but could be a month or more, manager Pat Murphy said.
