The Chicago Cubs and pitcher Tyler Chatwood have agreed to a three-year, $38 million deal, the club announced Thursday.
The Cubs locked up the right-hander to fill the void left by Jake Arrieta and John Lackey, who both filed for free agency.
Chatwood, who was 8-15 with a 4.69 ERA last season with the Colorado Rockies, was considerably better away from Coors Field, going 5-7 with a 3.49 ERA. In the past two seasons, only Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw has a better ERA on the road.
With the signing of Chatwood, the Cubs projected rotation consists of Jon Lester, Jose Quintana, Kyle Kendricks, Chatwood and Mike Montgomery.
