Dodgers' Cody Bellinger has surgery on shoulder he injured in celebration
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger underwent surgery Tuesday on his right shoulder, which he injured celebrating his go-ahead home run in the National League Championship Series.
Standard recovery from the surgery is expected to take around 10 weeks, the Dodgers said in a statement, which should give Bellinger enough time to be fully healthy for spring training.
Bellinger suffered the injury when he and teammate Kiké Hernandez bashed forearms after Bellinger's go-ahead home run in the bottom of the seventh inning of NLCS Game 7 against the Atlanta Braves.
The Dodgers eventually won the game 4-3 to advance to the World Series.
"I hit Kiké’s shoulder a little too hard and my shoulder popped out," Bellinger said after the game. "They had to pop it back in so I could play defense. It kinda hurt."
Against the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series, Bellinger hit just .136 (3-for-22) with a home run and three RBI.
After winning the 2019 National League MVP award, Bellinger, 25, had a disappointing regular season, posting a .239/.333/.455 slash line with 12 home runs in 56 games.
