Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux carted off field with leg injury, will have an MRI

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux had an injury scare on Monday in the team's spring training game against the San Diego Padres at Peoria Stadium in Arizona.
Manager Dave Roberts said Lux, who the Dodgers were expecting to be their starting shortstop, will undergo an MRI to identify the injury and the team will evaluate his status from there.
“What I did hear first off was from Gavin. There’s some fear in there — the outside of the knee he heard something pop. And so obviously, you’re always as a player thinking the worst,” Roberts said to the Dodgers' team blog after the 7-6 win. “Our trainers looked at him, I think their doctor looked at him and did some tests manually, but we don’t know a whole lot right now.”
In the sixth inning with the Dodgers up 2-1, Lux was on second base after hitting a single and Steven Duggar was walked. The next batter up, Luke Williams, hit a dribbler, so Lux ran from second toward third base. Padres third baseman Jantzen Witte threw the ball to second base and Lux swerved to his left to avoid being hit. He landed awkwardly and fell to the ground before rolling into third base while clutching his knee.
Lux lay on the ground for two minutes before he was carted off the field. Jorbit Vivas took his place on the bag.

This incident comes a day after Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas left the game against the Chicago Cubs with a foot cramp. Rojas will start at shortstop for Los Angeles in their Tuesday matchup against the Cincinnati Reds.
Lux, 25, is in his fifth year with the Dodgers after being drafted by the team in 2016. He made his debut in September 2019 and was a part of the 2020 World Series team.
