The Los Angeles Dodgers may have already played two games, but thanks to a late spring illness, reportedly norovirus, there was a chance that star infielder Mookie Betts would miss Opening Day at Dodger Stadium against the Detroit Tigers.

Betts already missed each of the Dodgers' contests against the Chicago Cubs in Japan earlier this month while battling this illness. Reports indicate that Betts had been battling the illness for more than two weeks and had "lost nearly 20 pounds" throughout, putting his status for Opening Day in question.

However, it appears that he is ready to go for Thursday night's contest.

Will Betts play vs. Detroit?

Yes.

The Dodgers announced that Betts was in their starting lineup, and would be batting second.

Not only did Betts manage to play in the Dodgers' final exhibition game before the regular season against the Angels on Tuesday, but he said after the game that he had every intention of playing in Thursday's game.

"I’m perfectly fine," Betts said. "Once I stepped foot on the dirt, I’m ready to go."
