The Cleveland Guardians are bringing back Tyler Naquin — but he'll be moving from the outfield to the mound.
The club announced Thursday that Naquin had been signed to a minor league deal, and that he'll be converting to a right-handed pitcher.
Naquin, 33, has logged only eight at-bats in the majors since the end of the 2022 season. He played five seasons from the Guardians from 2016 through 2020, posting a combined .274 average and .766 OPS. He then kicked around the majors with the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets and Chicago White Sox.
Now, he'll look to make a similar transition as Anthony Gose, who also has been trying to convert from an outfielder with an above-average arm to a pitcher.
