Marlins president says core pieces aren't 'in play' at trade deadline

With the trade deadline a week away, Miami Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill told reporters Sunday that the team isn't interested in dealing some of its core players.
Hill said the Marlins are telling teams that they are not planning to trade Giancarlo Stanton, Justin Bour, Christian Yelich, J.T. Realmuto, Marcell Ozuna and Dan Straily.
"It's not stopping calls from coming in," Hill said. "It's been fairly consistent, with people checking in to see where we're at to see if we may be open to expanding the players we're talking about.
"But we haven't put any of those guys in play."

Hill acknowledged that the uncertainty about the team's ownership is "part of" why the club isn't looking to sell off its big-name players.
Miami did trade reliever David Phelps to Seattle last week and closer A.J. Ramos is considered to be on the block.
"The relievers are more trade deadline-centric," Hill said. "You're going to get value for those guys. You want to take advantage of the deadline. Those other guys are controllable."
Entering play Monday, the Marlins are 44-52 and 11 games back in the National League Wild Card race.
